Permanent Account Number card i.e. PAN Card is one of the most important and compulsory documents. It is introduced as mainly a way to identify an individual from taxation point of view, the PAN card is used for various other purposes as well. And if you lose your it, you will end up feeling fretful and upset. But there is no need to be tensed in such situations as reprinting of a new card is very easy. In fact, it is a button click away to get a new card in case you don’t have one.


Here are the steps to know how to apply pancard :

  1. Open the pan services unit website https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/pan/ in your browser.
  2. Homepage of Pan services unit of Income Tax will be opened. This page have different sections like to apply for new Pan Card, reprinting of Pan card, enquiry and tracking status and additional detail to existing PAN information. The applicant can select the required tab or option as per his requirement.
  3. Form 49 A is used for application of new PAN, which is available on the mentioned website, i.e. https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/pan/. Details can be filled and forms can be submitted online.
  4. An acknowledgement is received after the submission of the form. This acknowledgement displays 15-digit unique number. The acknowledgement should be saved and print can also be taken for the next proceeding.
  5. This printed acknowledgement form is then sent to income tax department for further proceedings. There are a few necessary documents to be sent with this acknowledgement form as attachments. They include address proof and identity proof documents. The name mentioned in form 49A must be same as your identity proof and address proof documents. This should be taken care of while filling the name in Form 49A.
  6. Two latest colored photographs must be affixed in the form at the provided space. There is a section for signature also. The photographs given should be latest and clear as these will be used as identification photo for your PAN card.
  7. Application fee of Rs 96 has to be paid for Indian residence. Payment can be made by credit or debit card, demand draft, cheque or via internet banking. For non Indian residence, a demand draft of Rs 962 is payable. If payment is made by credit or debit card or through internet banking, then it is done when the form is being filled, for which payment acknowledgement is also received by the applicant at the same time. Print of this acknowledgement is to be attached with the Form 49A.
  8. Hence, the address proof, identity proof , photographs and the payment proof ( applicable as mentioned above) are to be attached with Form 49A and sent to NSDL, Pune within two weeks of online application. The envelope should mention the words “application for PAN card-‘ Acknowledgement number’”. These applications are processed once the payment is made and received by NSDL.
  9. The above steps are self-explanatory and easy. All the guidelines and adequate instructions are provided in the website for the process of PAN application, with all the do’s and don’ts. One can check the application status once acknowledgement is sent. NSDL also provides the facility to tack the status by writing at their address. SMS facility can also be avail by typing SMS NSDLPAN <space> Acknowledgement number and sending this SMS to 57575.
  10. For correction of details in your present PAN card is same as applying the new one as mentioned above. In the website homepage, there is a tab called “Changes or correction in PAN details”. Clicking on that tab will open the Request Form for changes or corrections. It is to be filled as per above mentioned steps.
